Photos: Hurricane Irma leaves a trail of destruction across Florida

Hurricane Irma made landfall in the Florida Keys on Sunday morning as a Category 4 storm. In doing so right after Hurricane Harvey devastated coastal Texas, it set a record for the first time on record that back-to-back Category 4 hurricanes have hit the U.S. Hurricane Irma was so powerful and long-lasting that it's "Accumulated Cyclone Energy" was higher than any other tropical cyclone on record in the Atlantic. 

Irma took a destructive path up Florida’s west coast, making a second landfall in Marco Island. The hurricane brought wind gusts up to 142 miles per hour to the state of Florida, and was far wider than the state, ensuring that both the east and west coasts experienced damaging winds, coastal flooding, and heavy rain. In Miami, winds gusted to greater than 90 miles per hour, and the city's financial district flooded, turning roads into rivers. Read more...
