We're no closer to 'Winds of Winter,' but George R.R. Martin does have a new TV show in the works

While Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin is hard at work (we hope) on the sixth novel in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, Syfy has announced that they're developing another one of the author's stories for television. 

Sadly, it's not set in the GOT universe — although Martin is said to be working on at least two of the four Game of Thrones spinoffs currently in development at HBO — and is instead based on the author's 1980 space novella Nightflyers.

Set in the future on the eve of Earth’s destruction, Nightflyers follows a crew of explorers as they journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to their survival. As the crew nears their destination, they discover that the ship’s artificial intelligence and never-seen captain may be steering them into deadly and unspeakable horrors deep in the dark reaches of space.
